House Committee on Ways and Means chairperson and Albay Rep. Joey Salceda renewed his call for the Senate to pass the resolution proposing amendments to the restrictive economic provisions of the 1987 Constitution.
Salceda made the statement following the approval of Resolution of Both Houses 2 by the House of Representatives last Wednesday night.
“We will approve this on 3rd reading and send it to the Senate. It’s their move now. The House wants this done, soon. That is for certain. But we hope the Senate begins deliberating soon. The timing is efficient, since we could have the plebiscite along with the 2022 elections,” Salceda said.
Salceda also repeated his reassurance that the House leadership has no intent of introducing amendments to the political provisions.
“RBH 2 is pure economic reform. We know and understand that any political charter change will be dead on arrival,” Salceda added.
Salceda said that the 1987 Constitution “hardcoded paranoia” has limited the progress of future generations with the fears of the past.
