PH lacks competent, inspiring leaders – Leachon

“We deserve better.”

Health reform advocate Dr. Tony Leachon is dismayed with the lack of government leaders with the ability to get the job done and inspire people especially during the pandemic.

As the country continued to be hit by the coronavirus pandemic, Leachon said the country deserved leaders with honesty and competence. Leaders with foresight are also needed.

“I have lived long enough to see the leaders of our country of different generations. Sadly, we lack leaders who are honest, competent , forward looking, and inspiring,” Leachon tweeted on May 16.

Leachon, a former adviser to the government task force addressing the pandemic, is hopeful the next generation of leaders will be equipped with such traits and skills.

“It is important to equip the next generation of citizens with these attributes to become successful leaders,” he said.

Leachon has openly criticized the government’s alleged weak and slow pandemic response as the country is faced with an alarming wave of coronavirus cases. The Manila-based physician decried the supposed leadership problem, saying the nation expected a competent and compassionate leader to deal with the health crisis.

In another tweet, Leachon said a management guru asked why the country was “under-led and screwed up” if the nation had the best talents.

“Now that we are discussing failures in our pandemic response,I fondly remember a management guru who recognized talents from the Philippines as world class and one of the very best. But then he asked me – but why is your country so under-led and screwed up? We deserve better!” he said.
