Beside Ninoy, Cory: Noynoy laid to rest

President Benigno “Noynoy” Aquino III was laid to rest Saturday (June 26), just two days after he died at 61 years old due to renal disease secondary to diabetes.

The urn containing Noynoy’s ashes was placed inside the tomb at the Manila Memorial Park at 1:43 p.m. by his youngest sister, Kris.

The tomb also contained the remains of Noynoy’s parents, democracy icons former President Corazon Aquino and former senator Benigno Aquino Jr.

Among the politikos who attended the inurnment at the Manila Memorial Park were Vice President Leni Robredo, Senator Francis Pangilinan, former senator Bam Aquino, and Basilan Rep. Mujiv Hataman.

Lingayen-Dagupan Archbishop Socrates Villegas led the final prayers for Aquino. Before the inurnment, the hymn of his alma mater, Ateneo De Manila University, was played.

Armed Forces of the Philippines chief-of-staff General Cirilito Sobejana gave a Philippine flag folded by soldiers to Noynoy’s eldest sister, Ballsy Aquino-Cruz, after the full military honors given by the military for the former President.

Aquino’s ashes were brought to the Manila Memorial Park from Ateneo’s Quezon City campus, where a necrological service was held at 10 a.m.
