Chief Justice Alexander Gesmundo is looking into tapping the local chapters Integrated Bar of the Philippines (IBP) to help prepare law students in becoming lawyers.
The Supreme Court Public Information Office (SCPIO) said in a statement that Gesmundo raised this during Friday’s (June 4) virtual courtesy call that was made by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID)-American Bar Association Rule of Law Initiative (ABA ROLI).
ABA ROLI has been implementing a number of projects in the Philippines, including the ACCESS Project.
“Chief Justice Gesmundo, who welcomed the initiative, also suggested that local IBP Chapters should assist law schools, and work together,” the SCPIO said.
During the meeting, Gesmundo revealed that a survey of judges revealed that “law graduates are often not ready to appear in court proceedings because of inadequate preparations during law school.”
“The Chief Justice suggested that the IBP local chapter members can help law student practitioners write pleadings, present cases in court, and conduct examination of witnesses,” the SCPIO said.
