No more 14-day quarantine: BI backs ‘green lanes’ for fully vaccinated foreigners

Bureau of Immigration (BI) Jaime Morente expressed support for the proposal to relax quarantine rules for fully vaccinated foreigners arriving in the Philippines.

“If approved by the IATF-MEID (Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases), we in the Bureau, support this initiative by the Department of Tourism (DOT) as it will not only resuscitate our tourism industry, it will also generate employment for millions of Filipinos who lost their jobs due to the pandemic,” Morente said in a statement.

Tourism Secretary Bernadette Romulo Puyat has already asked the IATF-MEID to allow vaccinated foreigners to visit the country for leisure as quarantine rules are being relaxed while the government undertakes a massive vaccination rollout for its citizens nationwide.

With this, Puyat recommended the establishment of “green lanes” for these foreigners, saying the proposal is aimed at facilitating the re-employment of tourism workers and revive the tourism industry.

“Once these ‘green lanes’ are set up, operations in our international airports and seaports hopefully will begin to return to normal,” Morente said.
