Malacañang expressed confidence that the Philippines was slowly recovering from the impact of Covid-19 pandemic, saying the government was balancing the threat of the virus and its economic impact.
Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque was reacting to Bloomberg’s Covid-19 Resilience Ranking that placed the country second-lowest among 53 countries.
“Hindi natin maikakaila na malaki ang naging epekto ng pandemya sa ating ekonomiya,” Roque said during a televised briefing.
“Pero ang ating economic team naman ay kampante na tayo ay unti unti nang bumabangaon at tuluyang makakabangon,” according to him.
He added that the government is focusing on the “total health” of the country by containing Covid-19 and letting the economy revive.
“Ang ating choice ngayon ay hindi between health and the economy. It is about total health,” said Roque.
“Ang ating mga polisiya ngayon ay talagang ini-ensure na hindi lang mapapababa ang numero ng COVID kung hindi maiiwasan din po ang pagkagutom sa hanay ng ating kababayan,” he concluded.
