MalacaƱang has extended the diversion of international flights bound for Mactan-Cebu International Airport (MCIA) to the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA).
Citing the June 5 memorandum issued by Executive Secretary Salvador Medialdea, Roque said the extension shall be until 11:59 p.m. of June 12, 2021.
“Inaasahan po natin that on the 13th of June the IATF protocols on arriving OFWs (overseas Filipino workers) and OFs (overseas Filipinos) will be implemented in Cebu,” according to the Palace official.
International flights headed to the MCIA were earlier diverted to NAIA from May 29 to June 5.
Cebu Governor Gwen Garcia earlier met with President Rodrigo Duterte to discuss the province’s entry protocols for Filipinos returning from abroad.
Garcia had issued Executive Order No. 17, directing returning OFWs and OFs to undergo a reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction test upon their arrival at the airport.
This policy contradicts the protocol set by the Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases, requiring returning Filipinos to be tested for Covid-19 on the seventh day after their arrival.
