Bayan Muna Rep. Ferdinand Gaite has underscored the need to determine if government funds are used to finance troll farms that are being run by an undersecretary.

“Is this the same troll farm involved in red-tagging progressive groups and in sharing fake news and posts attacking the opposition and critics of the administration? Who is this Usec and where are the funds coming from?” Gaite asked.

Gaite made the statement after Senator Panfilo Lacson revealed that a ranking government official has started organizing troll farms in every province to discredit critics of the administration and possible opponents of administration bets in next year’s election.

“Who has authorized the formation of these troll farms? Kung merong impormasyon ukol dito ay dapat itong agad na isiwalat sa sambayanan, laluna kung ginagamit ang buwis ng bayan para dito,” Gaite added.

Gaite said this is not the first time that government officials have been linked to troll farms to “create fake support to their policies and it would seem, to influence the outcome of the upcoming elections.”

“Dapat masawata ito, they should not be using the limited funds of the government for such illegal operations, especially now that these funds are needed for aid and the pandemic response. We ask Sen. Lacson to share the details of this illegal operations and to name the public official spearheading it,” the solon said.
