Dapat una si mayor! Media miss out on first interview with Hidilyn Diaz because of Duterte

Television reporters eager to interview Olympic gold medalist Hidilyn Diaz upon her arrival in the Philippines Wednesday (July 28) ended up waiting in vain because she had to meet virtually with President Rodrigo Duterte.

Talent manager Noel Ferrer apologized to Diaz over the abrupt cancellation of the planned press conference with the media.

“Sorry Hidilyn Diaz Oly. WE DIDN’T EXPECT NA DITO KA PA SA HOMECOMING MO MA-STE-STRESS… We had to cancel the well-planned and well coordinated media interviews today!!! (Sorry to our friends from teh press),” he said in a Facebook post.

In another post, Ferrer said Diaz had to be whisked away by the Presidential Management Staff (PMS) for the virtual meeting with Duterte upon her arrival at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA).

He also hinted that a lawmaker tried to corner Diaz into having an exclusive meeting with him but failed.

“UPDATE ON THE GROUND: Hindi nakaporma si Congressman. Hidilyn was taken by the Presidential Management Staff for a meeting with the President. That’s it!!!” Ferrer said.

Diaz is currently staying at a hotel in Metro Manila for the mandatory seven-day quarantine for returning Filipinos.
