Energy Secretary Alfonso Cusi has rewarded the loyalty of a PDP-Laban official ousted by Senator Manny Pacquiao with an appointment to a plum post at the Department of Energy (DOE).
Astravel Naik, chairperson of PDP-Laban’s membership committee, took her oath as DOE Undersecretary before Cusi on July 21.
In a Facebook post, Naik excitedly shared how thrilled she was to be working alongside Cusi, who replaced Pacquiao as PDP-Laban president.
“Mula umaga hanggang ngayon, sabak agad sa meetings. Day 1 with DOE. Thank you sa sipag ng aking bagong boss Sec Al Cusi, na mukhang di napapagod hahaha. Heavy discussion to serve the people with power and efficiency,” she said.
The PDP-Laban faction led by Pacquiao approved on July 9 a resolution expelling Cusi, Naik and party deputy secretary general Melvin Matibag for supposedly violating party rules “by showing allegiance to a political party apart from PDP-Laban.”
With the backing of PDP-Laban chairman, President Rodrigo Duterte, Cusi on July 17 led a national assembly of party members where Pacquiao was ousted as party president. A new set of officers were elected, including Naik and Matibag as Secretary General.
