Duterte to attend July 17 PDP-Laban meeting – Palace

President Rodrigo Duterte is expected to attend the PDP-Laban national council meeting on Saturday, his spokesman said Monday.

Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque said the July 17 meeting that Energy Secretary Alfonso Cusi called was in the calendar of Duterte.

“Yung meeting ng PDP-Laban sa Clark sa July 17 called by Secretary Cusi, it’s in the calendar of the President,” Roque said during his televised briefing.

When asked about the expulsion of Cusi, the PDP-Laban vice chairman, from the ruling party, the Palace official told reporters: “All I can say is he recognizes the leadership of Secretary Cusi and that is why he will attend the party special meeting on July 17.”

On Friday, PDP-Laban passed a resolution expelling Cusi, party Deputy Secretary General Melvin Matibag and Membership head Astra Naik for allegedly violating Article 7 section 6 of the PDP-Laban Constitution that prohibits members from allegiance to another political party.

“Vice Chairman Cusi is already manipulating the party to support the Duterte-Duterte tandem which is a blatant admission of supporting Sara Duterte Carpio for President, who is not a member of the Party. He is guilty of having allegiance to a candidate and her political ideals and party,” the resolution issued by the Pacquiao-led PDP Laban group read. (AFP)
