Duterte to still attend public events amid Delta variant concerns: Palace

Despite the country recording cases of the highly contagious Delta coronavirus variant, President Rodrigo Duterte will continue to pursue public engagements, according to Malacañang.

In his virtual presser Monday, Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque said Duterte’s public appearances have been limited since the pandemic’s onset.

“Simula’t mula naman po limitado na ang movement ng ating presidente. Pero siguro po depende rin ‘yan kung saan pupunta ang presidente at kung ano ‘yung kahalagahan ng mga affairs na pupuntahan niya,” Roque told reporters.

“Pero ngayon naman po ay consistent naman ang pattern of movement ng presidente. Unless merong extraordinary affair, eh nasa Malago po siya o nandito sa siyudad ng Davao,” he added.

The Department of Health earlier said it has detected 35 cases of the Delta variant in the country, including three deaths and 32 recoveries.
