Locsin: PH pandemic response not perfect but ‘better’ than many others

Foreign Affairs Secretary Teodoro Locsin Jr. believes the country performed better than other nations in addressing the fast-spreading coronavirus outbreak.

Locsin said the country’s pandemic response was not perfect but was certainly better compared to other nations. He did not name these countries out of courtesy.

“We’re not perfect by absolutely any means or any stretch of public relations imagination; but with a fast mutating and just as fast spreading virus, we’ve done good and better than many others we are too polite to not name to shame. I’ll get their asses for their insult,” he tweeted on July 11, 2021.

Locsin was commenting on the statement of Dr. Rabindra Abeyangsinghe, World Health Organization (WHO) representative to the Philippines, that the country had “done a good job” in pandemic response despite limited resources.

The WHO official said the number of people who succumbed to the virus was lower in the Philippines compared to countries that have higher capacity and resources. He said the Philippines was a middle-income country and cannot be expected to have a First World type response.
