Senator Manny Pacquiao will run for president in 2022, his ally and spokesperson has confirmed.
Former Bacolod City Mayor Monico Puentevella on Tuesday (July 20) said Pacquiao is bent on pursuing his presidential bid even if he was ousted as president of the ruling party, PDP-Laban.
“Tatakbo nang pangulo si Senator Pacquiao,” Puentevella told One News’ “The Chiefs.” “May party man o walang party, sipain man o ‘di sisipain.”
Puentevella, however, was tight lipped about Pacquiao’s running mate, saying it’s best to wait for the senator to return from the United States after his boxing match with Errol Spence Jr.
Pacquiao’s ally said the senator was also open to alliances with opposition groups, including 1Sambayan and the Liberal Party.
“Manny Pacquiao is open to everybody. To everybody! He wants to talk to everybody to unite everyone. To those who want him, no problem,” Puentevella said.
The former mayor noted that 1Sambayan and LP have already expressed openness to considering Pacquiao as presidential candidate. The senator is also friendly with Senate President Vicente “Tito” Sotto III, who’s from the Nationalist People’s Coalition (NPC).
