An ally of Senator Manny Pacquiao wants President Rodrigo Duterte to apologize to the lawmaker over the insults he hurled at Pacquiao.
Former Bacolod Rep. Monico Puentevella said it’s now difficult to call Duterte an ally of Pacquiao because of the harsh words he said to the senator.
Duterte had called Pacquiao “ignorant” (walang alam) and “punch drunk.” The President also threatened to campaign against the boxing champion—who’s widely believed to be running for president—if Pacquiao can’t support his allegations of corruption involving government agencies.
“I expect even if you are the President for a senator na minura mo, at least you owe him an apology. Kung ‘di ka mag-apologize kay senator, ito ay magtatapos sa dulo… sa susunod na eleksyon,” Puentevella told One News’ “The Chiefs” Tuesday (July 20).
Asked if Duterte can still be considered an ally of Pacquiao, Puentevella said: “Ay wala na, wala na siguro.”
“Kung minura-mura ka, pinalitan ka, inalis ka as president, humingi ka ng meeting ‘di ka man lang kinausap tapos lahat na binibira sa ‘yo, tinatanggap mo bilang Kristiyano ‘di ka sumasagot,” he added.
Pacquiao was ousted as PDP-Laban president in a national assembly on July 16 that Duterte attended. He was replaced by Energy Secretary Alfonso Cusi.
