No laptop? No problem: Kids helping seniors register for COVID-19 vaccination

By Billy Begas

Anakalusugan Rep. Michael Defensor said that children are doing their share to drive the COVID-19 vaccination of the adult population.

“Based on the feedback we obtained around Quezon City, children are doing their share to keep their older loved ones out of harm’s way,” Defensor said. “The children are the ones trying to find ways to enlist their parents, grandparents and other adult household members for immunization.”

Meanwhile, Defensor expressed hope that word-of-mouth communication will encourage more Filipinos to get vaccinated.

As more Filipinos get vaccinated and casually relate their positive experience to other people, this in turn will motivate even more individuals to seek inoculation,” Defensor added.

He explained that people will be more receptive to vaccination once they receive good feedback from neighbors, relatives and co-workers, and once vaccination services become more accessible.

“We do not consider vaccine hesitancy as a serious problem. Our sense is, the problem has more to do with the arrival of vaccine supplies in batches, which is understandable considering the global scramble for tight provisions,” he noted.

Currently, the government is vaccinating individuals under priority groups A1 to A5, namely health workers, senior citizens, persons with comorbidities, economic frontline workers, and indigent Filipinos.

The Philippines has administered more than 10 million vaccine doses, with over 2.5 million individuals fully inoculated as of June 27.
