Malacañang on Wednesday brushed aside the call of PDP-Laban executive vice chairman and Senator Aquilino “Koko” Pimentel III to ignore the national assembly organized by Energy Secretary Alfonso Cusi this Saturday.
“If PDP-Laban really wants to ignore the President, so be it,” Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque said in a televised briefing.
“Gaya ng sinabi ko isang lang jeep ang PDP-Laban bago naman pumasok diyan ang presidente. Kung nais nila umalis diyan ang presidente, nasa kanila ang desisyon. But, we will see what will happen,” added Roque.
Roque earlier confirmed President Rodrigo Duterte’s attendance to the July 17 meeting that will be held in Clark, Pampanga.
On Tuesday, Pimentel said they don’t recognize the special meeting called by Cusi, who has been pushing Duterte to run for president in the 2022 national elections.
The group of PDP-Laban officers led by Senator Manny Pacquiao, decided to expel Cusi, the PDP-Laban vice chairman, and two other officials, for allegedly violating Article 7 section 6 of the PDP-Laban Constitution that prohibits members from allegiance to another political party.
Pacquiao, who is seen as a possible presidential contender next year, is currently the party’s acting president.
