Former Vice President Jejomar Binay is disappointed with the government’s poor response to the pandemic amid the latest surge in coronavirus cases.
Binay chided the Duterte government for its inefficiency and lack of urgency in dealing with the pandemic. He said they should “shape up” and not blame the people for the latest COVID spike.
“The number of COVID-19 cases is rising fast. Again. Government is imposing restrictions. Again. Paulit-ulit na ito pero hindi natututo. And until government shapes up, we will be trapped in this loop of uncertainty because of government’s inefficiency and lack of urgency,” he said.
“Sigurado ako, ang sasabihin nila kasalanan natin ito. Kailan ba aaminin ng gobyerno na hanggang ngayon, palpak pa rin sila sa testing, contact tracing, border control, at vaccine procurement?” he said.
Binay made the statement after President Duterte placed Metro Manila back to a stricter general community quarantine (GCQ) to contain the COVID case resurgence.
The government was compelled to tighten the lockdown measures after more cases of the more contagious Delta coronavirus variant have been reported by the Department of Health.
