Senator Manny Pacquiao’s potential presidential bid has reportedly suffered another setback after a PR operator allegedly was able to fool him and amassed multi-million worth of propaganda funds that will be used supposedly in next year’s elections.
In his Manila Times column dated July 9, 2021, former Press Secretary Rigoberto “Bobi” Tiglao claimed that “a clever PR operator has already wangled P50 million” from Pacquiao, less than three months before the deadline of the filing of certificate of candidacy for president.
According to Tiglao, the supposed PR man which he didn’t name was able to convince Pacquiao to release the funds equivalent to about $1-million for a strategic communications plan ahead of the campaign season which will portray the only eight-division boxing champion as “a viable presidential candidate.”
The former Arroyo-era official cautioned Pacquiao over the supposed recent dealings he has been through and warned that “he will lose his shirt so that he may have to sell his Forbes Park and Dasmariñas mansions and move to an apartment in General Santos” if he gets defeated in next year’s presidential race.
Pacquiao’s longtime special assistant, Jake Joson shared Tiglao’s column to members of the Senate media through “PACMAN sa Senado” Viber group and expressed concern over the matter.
Joson said he is willing to cooperate with Tiglao to know what’s really the truth and story behind the wangled multimillion PR funds of Pacquiao.
“Masakit para sa akin kung totoo ‘yan mga sinulat niya… willing ako makipag usap sa kanya para malaman ko ang katotohan,” Joson’s posted in the said Viber group.
Pacquiao’s PR team for his upcoming presidential bid is being run by Bernard Rubio Peralta, public relations head of the Manny Pacquiao Foundation, and PDP Laban Executive Director Ronwald Munsayac, who is also the deputy chief-of-staff and chief political officer of Senator Aquilino “Koko” Pimentel III.
Peralta responded to Joson’s query in the same Viber group, saying that Tiglao’s claim is a mere hoax.
“Wow ah! Saan nya nakuha yan. Hahaha. Another fake news,” said Peralta.
Pacquiao , currently preparing for his August 21 showdown with undefeated American welterweight champion Errol Spence Jr., was ousted as president of PDP Laban Party during the ruling party’s national convention last week, which was graced by no less than President Rodrigo Duterte.
Aside from the current political turmoil fronting his career, Pacquiao faces a multimillion-dollar lawsuit before the Orange County Civil Court in California in connection with his botched contract obligations with Paradigm Sports of Iraqi-American boxing/MMA promoter Auddie Attar.
ESPN’s Marc Raimondi earlier reported that Paradigm Sports was “seeking damages from Pacquiao that could reach into the eight figures”—which is equivalent to at least $10 million or about P486.2 million. (CMC)
