Chief Presidential Legal Counsel Salvador Panelo on Tuesday described Hidilyn Diaz’s Olympic gold medal win as a “testament to the Filipino race’s talent and indefatigable spirit.”
Diaz brought the Philippines’ first-ever Olympic gold medal Monday after she won the women’s 55-kilogram category for weightlifting in Tokyo, Japan.
“Her feat makes us Filipinos proud,” Panelo said in a statement.
“It serves as an inspiration to all Filipino athletes that getting gold in the Olympics is no longer a dream but a reality. Congratulations Hidilyn Diaz!!!” the abogado added.
To recall, in 2019, Panelo linked Diaz – who also secured a silver medal in the women’s 53-kg weight division at the 2016 Rio Olympics – and other political personalities to an alleged plot to oust President Rodrigo Duterte.
