PH verifying alleged dumping of human waste by Chinese ships in WPS: Palace

By Prince Golez

The government is still verifying reports that Chinese vessels have dumped human waste in the West Philippine Sea (WPS), Malacañang said.

On Wednesday, Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque said they would only react once the reported dumping of waste in the disputed area was confirmed.

“The responsible answer is we are verifying first. We will react if it’s been verified,” Roque said in his virtual presser.

Is the government convinced by the Chinese Embassy’s explanation that the photo of a ship seen dumping waste was taken in the Australian Great Barrier Reef in 2014?

“We have to accord our neighbors and our friends the presumption of good faith when they say something about an issue of fact,” according to the secretary.

The WPS is the subject of conflicting territorial claims among the Philippines, China, Vietnam, Brunei, Malaysia, and Taiwan.
