As the PDP-Laban faction led by Energy Secretary Alfonso Cusi elected a new set of officers and unseated Senator Manny Pacquiao as party president, Senator Koko Pimentel addressed their own allies in the party and asked them to rally behind the boxer-politician as the real PDP-Laban president.
In the Zoom meeting, Pimentel, the son of the late PDP founder Nene Pimentel, reminded the members to stay united behind the leadership of Pacquiao, according to a press statement released by Ronwald Munsayac, a PDP-Laban executive director before the Cusi-led reorganization.
According to Munsayac’s press statement, “thousands of bona fide and original grassroots members of PDP-Laban strongly denounced the party officials behind the Cusi-led national assembly held in Clark, Pampang.
They said the election of new officers, including Cusi as the new president, was “a farce, illegal and not sanctioned by the general membership.”
