Roque asks Pacquiao: ‘Why did you fail to pay your taxes?’

By Prince Golez

Senator Manny Pacquiao must “walk the talk” in terms of fighting corruption, Malacañang said, adding that tax evasion is corrupt behavior itself.

Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque made the statement after President Rodrigo Duterte raised Pacquiao’s alleged P2.2-billion tax deficiency.

“You have to walk the talk ‘no if you’re against corruption, bakit ikaw mismo eh hindi nagbabayad ng buwis which is really a form of corruption dahil ikaw ay, at the same time, ay public officer,” Roque said in a virtual presser Thursday.

On Tuesday, Duterte said Duterte said he would try to get an update on the tax evasion complaint against Pacquiao, who earlier claimed that the present administration was more corrupt than its predecessor.

The President previously dared Pacquiao to name government agencies involved in corruption and provide evidence to substantiate his allegations.

For his part, the boxer-turned-senator named departments of Health, Energy, Environment and Natural Resources, and Social Welfare Development as corrupt agencies.
