Roque downplays Pacquiao’s corruption claims vs DSWD: ‘Akala ko atom bomb, yun pala watusi’

By Prince Golez

Malacañang has likened to “watusi” the Senator Manny Pacquiao’s allegations that there are missing funds from the Social Amelioration Program (SAP).

Pacquiao earlier alleged that P10.4 billion in SAP funds went missing due to use of Starpay e-wallet. The lawmaker said that out of the 1.8 million beneficiaries, only 500,000 downloaded the app.

“Watusi po, akala ko atom bomb, yun pala watusi. Walang kwenta kasi puro generalized allegations po,” Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque said in a televised briefing Monday.

“Walang bill of particulars, walang specific instance, walang ebidensiya, wala man lang follow up… Patunayan niya ang kanyang paratang dahil kung hindi pulitika lang po ang pinagsasabi ni Senator Pacquiao,” said Roque.

On Sunday, the Department of Social Welfare and Development denied that there were missing funds from the social aid.

All funds provided to the financial service providers were all accounted for, the department said in a statement.

“All aid distributed is supported by liquidation reports that can be shared, if necessary,” it added.
