Roque on dismissal of graft raps vs Revilla: ‘Ganyan talaga ang sistema ng katarungan sa Pilipinas’

By Prince Golez

On the dismissal of charges against Senator Ramon “Bong” Revilla Jr. in relation to the pork barrel scam, Malacañang said the lawmaker was given his day in court, and the prosecution failed to prove his guilt beyond reasonable doubt.

“Ganyan po talaga ang sistema ng katarungan natin sa Pilipinas. Ang mga akusado ay presumed innocent until proven otherwise,” Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque said during a televised briefing Tuesday.

On Monday, the Sandiganbayan, in a 196-page decision penned by Associate Justice Geraldine Faith Econg, junked 16 counts of graft against Revilla over his alleged involvement in the multi-billion peso pork barrel scam that was exposed in 2013.

The senator from Cavite was accused of funneling his Priority Development Assistance Fund to bogus non-government organizations linked to businesswoman Janet Lim Napoles.

When asked how Revilla’s acquittal will affect the government’s anti-corruption drive, Roque said: “Wala naman pong epekto diyan dahil patuloy po ang pagtuligsa ng ating Presidente natin sa mga kurakot sa gobyerno.”

The secretary added that Duterte has vowed to focus his remaining term on fighting corruption.
