Former Press Sec. Rigoberto “Bobi” Tiglao’s exposé over an alleged multimillion “wangled” PR funds for Senator Manny Pacquiao’s presidential bid has apparently sparked an internal turmoil inside the boxing champ’s campaign team.
Jake Joson, Pacquiao’s longtime special assistant, shared a recent column of Tiglao that was published in Manila Times earlier this month to members of the Senate media through “PACMAN sa Senado” Viber group and expressed grave concern over the matter.
Tiglao’s July 9, 2021 column in Times claimed that a “clever PR operator” was allegedly able to fool the boxing champ and amassed some P50-million worth of propaganda funds that will be used supposedly in next year’s presidential elections.
“Masakit para sa akin kung totoo ‘yan mga sinulat niya… willing ako makipag usap sa kanya (Tiglao) para malaman ko ang katotohanan,” Joson’s posted in the said Viber group.
The former Arroyo-era official claimed that the supposed PR man which he didn’t name was able to persuade Pacquiao to release the said multi-million funds equivalent about $1 million for a strategic communications plan ahead of the campaign season which will portray the only eight-division boxing champion as “a viable presidential candidate.”
For Joson, he will not hesitate to openly name the hustler PR guy who allegedly amassed the multimillion propaganda funds from Pacquiao’s pocket, if Tiglao’s write-up is proven to be true.
“Malaman ko lang kung sino ‘yan eh openly papangalanan ko po yang tao na yan dito para matigil ang panloloko nila at managot sila kung mapatunayan ni Sec. Tiglao mga sinulat niya!” Joson stressed.
Pacquiao’s communications team for his upcoming presidential bid is being run by Bernard Rubio Peralta, public relations head of the Manny Pacquiao Foundation, and PDP Laban Executive Director Ronwald Munsayac, also the deputy chief-of-staff and chief political officer of Senator Aquilino “Koko” Pimentel III.
Peralta quickly responded to Joson’s query in the same Viber group, saying that Tiglao’s claim is a mere hoax.
“Wow ah! Saan nya nakuha yan. Hahaha. Another fake news,” said Peralta.
Joson then posted a screenshot of his conversation with retired Police Colonel Danny Enriquez, Pacquiao’s chief security, wherein the latter claimed that he was told by no less than by their boss over his suspicion who’s responsible over the alleged wangled funds.
“Binanggit sakin ‘yang kung sino,” said Enriquez.
Joson then asked Enriquez if he could be the “point person” over the internal investigation that will be conducted, which the retired colonel approved.
Pacquiao’s so-called “Pambansang Anino,” as dubbed by several netizens also requested Enriquez if he could set him an immediate appointment with Tiglao.
“Maraming Salamat Col. Dan. Intayin ko ang report mo para makapag report din ako (sa) mga brothers & sisters natin sa media. Basta bigyan mo muna si Sen. MP ng copy bago sa akin!!! Kasi pag nahawakan ko yan at totoo eh walang makakapigil sa akin na ipadala agad yan sa PACMAN sa Senado!!!” said Joson.
