Anyare? Gatchalian on PH low testing rate: We should be testing 100,000 per day by now

Senator Sherwin Gatchalian is worried about the country’s low COVID-19 testing amid the sharp rise in infections and deaths.

The senator has appealed to the government to ramp up coronavirus testing in order to trace, isolate and treat people infected with the virus.

“What happened to our testing capacity??” Gatchalian asked in a latest post on Twitter.

The Department of Health reported that country’s positivity rate has risen to 21.9 percent based on 38,428 tests made as of August 11.

Gatchalian is concerned that the government is not doing enough testing of people with COVID-19 symptoms. The government earlier aimed for 100,000 COVID-19 tests per day but reported only 38,000 last Wednesday despite improved testing facilities and resources.

“We should be testing 100k/day by now. Gov’t should not let go out testing. It’s the only we can find the invisible enemy,” Gatchalian said.

The DOH reported 12,021 new COVID-19 cases on August 11, bringing the total number of active cases to 81,399. Wednesday’s case load is reportedly the highest so far in four months.
