Teachers seek unpaid OT pay after working 13 months since June last year

ACT Teachers Party-list Rep. France Castro expressed concern over whether teachers will receive the overtime pay for having worked non-stop for the past 13 months.

Castro detailed, in an interview on Abante’s Balitaan at Kumustahan on Wednesday that teachers have continuously been working from June 1, 2020 up to July 10, 2021.

She also lamented the lack of vacation time for teachers, even though their work for the past school year ended on July 10, the constant stream of other school-related activities like the recent Brigada-Eskuwela prevents them from relaxing.

“Yung overtime pay ay dahil nagsimula ang teachers July 1 ng last year, so July 1 hanggang July 10 this year. So bale 13 months yung ipinasok ng teacher.

Castro also noted that despite having met with the Department of Education (DepEd) and the Civil Service Commission (CSC) regarding the guidelines for the distribution of the overtime pay, in nearly two months they have not received any.
