‘Bakuna bubble’ anyone? Joey Concepcion wants to bar the unvaccinated from malls, restaurants

No vaccine shot, no service.

If Joey Concepcion had his way, the unvaccinated will be kept out of shopping malls, restaurants, and other establishments in Metro Manila to prevent the spread of the coronavirus.

Concepcion, the Presidential Adviser for Entrepreneurship, proposed to limit where the unvaccinated persons can go for their own safety and protection.

The fully vaccinated individuals, on the other hand, must be given more freedom of movement, such as allowing them to enter malls, shops and other business establishments. Ensuring safe mobility will create a “bubble” not only to protect the people but also help consumer and business activities even during a pandemic.

“This proposal is actually the answer to the question of how we can open our economy safely. That is the only path that I can see to be able to do that,” Concepcion tweeted on August 26, 2021.

“We must only allow fully-vaccinated people, who have sufficient protection, to drive economic activity in Metro Manila,” he said.

In the same post on Twitter, Concepcion shared his Philippine Star article titled “Protecting the unvaccinated and saving the economy.” In his article, he warned that the government’s budget may be depleted and “we will all suffer altogether” if lockdowns continue and keep both the fully-vaccinated and the unvaccinated to stall.

He said the government, already tasked to buy vaccines, testing kits and bankroll other pandemic response, could not keep on giving cash subsidy since it drain its finances.

“So, we have to open the economy since it is the real way to sustain the livelihood of the people. In the same manner, we have to save lives of the unvaccinated because they are not protected,” he said.
