DOH slammed for confusing statements on Delta variant

Bagong Alyansang Makabayan (Bayan) Secretary General Renato Reyes Jr. condemned the confusion incited by the differing statements made by officials of the Department of Health regarding the spread of COVID-19 Delta variant in the country.

He also condemned the lack of improvements made by the government in its pandemic response that led to the initiation of another two-week long lockdown in Metro Manila, and called the decision unsurprising given the lack of testing and contact tracing, slow rate of vaccinations, and insufficient hospital capacity.

Reyes specifically noted that the Philippine Genome Center could have been instrumental in tracking the spread of the Delta variant had it been better funded with more personnel and equipment, and had better facilities.
