President Rodrigo Duterte now wants casinos to operate in Boracay Island, citing the need for more government funds.
In a pre-taped briefing Thursday, Duterte apologized for contradicting his previous stance on gambling and admitted that state funds are running low.
Patawarin na po ninyo ako for the contradiction. Ngayon po wala tayong pera,” according to him.
Kung diyan sa gambling, so be it.
In 2018, Duterte ordered the closure of all casinos in Boracay after shutting down the island for six months to pave the way for its rehabilitation due to sewage and environmental issues.
