Another government official lost his job over alleged corruption.
President Duterte has fired National Electrification Administration (NEA) administrator Edgardo Masongsong over corruption allegations.
“We’ve been talking about corruption. Alam mo may bago akong, the name is Edgardo Masongsong. He’s the administrator of the National Electrification Administration. I dismissed him from public service,” Duterte said during a taped speech aired Saturday on People’s Television.
“I’m sorry but I said people are very skeptic about our desire to improve government service. We do not claim to maybe really totally clean government at this time not even with another president,” Duterte said.
The dismissal of the NEA chief came after an investigation conducted by the Presidential Anti-Corruption Commission. The body, led by PACC commissioner Greco Belgica, recommended the removal of the official, which “I have approved,” Duterte said.
Duterte is aware that people are “very skeptic” about his effort to improve government service. he said he does not promise to “totally clean government” but will continue to do his best to fight corruption.
