Duterte ‘not convinced’ about Duterte-Duterte tandem in 2022

By Prince Golez

President Rodrigo Duterte said he’s “not convinced” that a Duterte-Duterte tandem should happen in the 2022 national elections, Cabinet Secretary Karlo Nograles said Wednesday.

Nograles said Duterte, who already accepted the PDP-Laban’s endorsement for him to join the vice presidential race next year, has always rejected the idea of running as vice president to his daughter, Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio.

“Sinasabi naman niya lagi na hindi niya gusto yung ‘pag Duterte-Duterte. Ang sinasabi niya, ‘pag tumakbo si Mayor Inday Sara Duterte, ang kanyang anak pagkapangulo, malamang magbabago ang isip niya. As it stands right now, parati naman niyang sinasabi hindi niya gusto na Duterte-Duterte yung tatakbo,” the Palace official told CNN’s The Source.

“He’s always been consistent diyan. Sabi niya ‘pag Duterte-Duterte, parang, to him, he’s not convinced that it should happen at least for the 2022 national elections,” he added.

Meanwhile, Nograles, also executive vice president of the PDP-Laban, said they will nominate Senator Christopher “Bong” Go as the PDP-Laban’s official presidential candidate during the ruling party’s national convention on September 8.

Go, Duterte’s long-time assistant, is the “most qualified” to lead the country, the former Davao City representative claimed.

“We believe in his abilities and capabilities. We believe he will be the best tandem for President Duterte when President Duterte is elected as vice president,” he also said.
