President Rodrigo Duterte scoffed at the investigations conducted by the Senate on alleged anomalies in government, saying these are only being used by some senators for “posturing.”
In a televised address Thursday (August 26), Duterte said Senate investigations end up nowhere.
“Huwag ho kayong maniwala diyan sa imbestigasyon, imbestigasyon. Makita naman ninyo walang nangyayari, purro lang ‘we will investigate, investigate,’ pagkatapos niyan… It begins with a bluster and it—matapos ‘yan a whiff,” he said.
Duterte accused some senators of using the Senate investigations merely to promote themselves.
“Pakinggan mo ‘yung mga ibang senador diyan, mayroon talagang masabi. After an investigation or or two or three days you’re hearing, wala na. Walang rekomendasyon, walang dinemanda, walang napreso. Puro postura lang, question, question,” he said.
The Senate blue ribbon committee is currently investigating the alleged deficiencies in the Department of Health’s spending of over P67 billion in COVID-19 funds, which were flagged by the Commission on Audit.
Duterte has cleared Health Secretary Francisco Duque III of any wrongdoing and said he will not allow the latter to resign.
