President Rodrigo Duterte is growing confident about running for vice president in 2022 due to the upwelling of support he has received from mayors across the country.
In a televised briefing aired Thursday (August 26), Duterte asked Chief Presidential Legal Counsel Salvador Panelo if mayors indeed told him that they want the President to run for vice president.
Panelo replied in the affirmative, saying mayors told him they wanted a “continuity” of the current administration.
“Iyon ho ang palagi nilang sinasabi. Iba na raw ‘yung nandiyan kayo at makikita niyo kung itutuloy o hindi,” he said.
Thanking Panelo, Duterte said: “Mukhang tatakbo na talaga ako, Sal. Nako-convince na ako, baka dalawang appearances mo pa, ilang mayors na siguro, talagang sisigaw na ako ng ‘Banzai!’”
Duterte’s party, PDP-Laban, is pushing his candidacy alongside Senator Bong Go as the standard bearer.
