President Rodrigo Duterte does not seem too keen on letting Public Works Secretary Mark Villar run for senator in the 2022 national elections.
In a televised speech late Monday, Duterte said he will regret it should Villar, son of Senator Cynthia Villar and former Senate President Manny Villar, decide to run for Congress next year.
“Pareho kayo top performers, but in terms of largest projects, natural, it would always be the DPWH. Ang galing mo,” the Chief Executive said.
“Manghinayang ako ‘pag tumakbo ka ng senador at manalo ka naman. Mawalaan yung executive department ng mga taong kagaya mo. So, I would like to say, in behalf of the grateful nation, sa mga taong kagaya ninyo, ang pera ng tao talagang nakikita,” he added.
Last month, PDP-Laban Vice-President for Visayas and Eastern Samar Gov. Ben Evardone revealed that Villar was among the senatorial candidates of the Partido Demokratiko Pilipino-Lakas ng Bayan, Duterte’s political party.
