Go-Duterte for 2022 just might become a reality. Here’s the catch

Senator Christopher “Bong” Go might just join the 2022 presidential race if President Rodrigo Duterte agrees to become his running mate.

Go on Friday (August 6) expressed openness to running for president after officials of PDP-Laban confirmed their endorsement of a Go-Duterte tandem for the upcoming elections.

“Gaya ng sinabi ko noon, ang makapagbabago lang ng aking desisyon na tumakbo bilang Presidente ay kung si Tatay Digong ang aking magiging Bise Presidente. Dahil alam ko na yun ang magiging totoong ‘continuity,’” the senator said in a statement.

While Go said he’s not interested in the presidency, he’s also leaving his fate up to God—and the Dutertes, in particular the President and his daughter, Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte.

“But, as I have said many times before, I leave my fate to God, to the Dutertes (kay Pangulong Rodrigo Duterte at Mayor Sara Duterte) — kung ano man po ang kanilang magiging desisyon sa pulitika — and to the Filipino people to whom I owe this opportunity to serve our country,” he said.

“Sila po ang nagbigay sa akin ng pagkakataon na maglingkod kaya hindi ko po sasayangin ang oras na ito na makapagserbisyo sa aking kapwa Pilipino sa abot ng aking makakaya,” Go added.

PDP-Laban Secretary General Melvin Matibag said the issue of fielding Go and Duterte will be discussed during the party’s national assembly scheduled on Sept. 8.
