The Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) has withdrawn the show cause order it issued to Manila Mayor Isko Moreno asking him to explain the city’s alleged failure to fight illegal drugs in 2018, a year before he was elected to the post.
DILG Undersecretary Ricojudge Echiverri said the show cause order issued on July 9 against Moreno was an “inadvertent reissuance” of the document first transmitted to the local government in 2019.
Echiverri said the city government had been asked to explain its failure in the Anti-Drug Abuse Council (ADAC) audit for 2018.
“[T]he 2018 audit reflected the poor performance of the city government of Manila under the previous City Mayor,” he said.
“By virtue of this error and the guidance of policies and procedures of the Department, we are hereby withdrawing the document in issue,” Echiverri added.
The media got hold of the show cause order on Thursday (August 5), the same day it was confirmed that Moreno bolted the National Unity Party to join the little known Aksyon Demokratiko party. He’s believed to be running for president in the 2022 elections.
