Man of his word: Duterte won’t run for VP if Romualdez joins race, says Palace

President Rodrigo Duterte will not run for vice president in 2022 if House Majority Leader and Leyte 1st District Rep. Martin Romualdez does, Malacañang sad Thursday.

Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque said Duterte, who already accepted his nomination as the vice presidential candidate of the ruling PDP-Laban party, is a “man of his words.”

“Kung tatakbo po si Congressman Romualdez, susuportahan pa rin niya. Pero wala namang indication na tatakbo si Congressman Romualdez as vice president,” said Roque.

Will Duterte drop his vice presidential bid should Romualdez run next year?

“I believe the President said he’s a man of his words. So, dahil binitawan niyang salita na kung tatakbo si Congressman Romualdez, susuportahan niya. I believe if Congressman Romualdez will run, he will not run as vice president,” the Palace official said.
