Senator Bong Go has expressed support for Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte’s possible presidential bid despite PDP-Laban’s lobbying to endorse him as the party’s standard bearer.
In a statement, Go said he has no interest in running for president in the 2022 elections.
“My position has not changed. I am still not interested in running for President. And as I have said before, if Mayor Sara runs, I will support her,” he said.
Go urged the public to wait for the decision of Sara and her father, President Rodrigo Duterte. The senator said he remains
“I leave my fate to God, to the Dutertes—kung anuman ang desisyon nila Pangulong Duterte at Mayor Sara pagdating sa pulitika —and to the Filipino people dahil sila po ang nagbigay sa akin ng pagkakataon na makapaglingkod sa kapwa at marating kung saan man po ako nandirito ngayon,” he said.
Go said he would rather work than focus on politics. The senator said he’s seen first hand the difficulties of running the country because of Duterte and he wants to be considered last for the post.
“Mas gugustuhin kong magtrabaho at magserbisyo sa tahimik na paraan na may resulta para sa kapakanan ng mga Pilipino,” he said.
Sara on Wednesday (August 25) said her father confirmed to her his plan to run for vice president alongside Go.
The mayor said she told Duterte to “own up publicly” to their decision and stop talking about her.
