A total of 32 Filipinos are still left in Afghanistan a week after evacuations persist as the Taliban took over the country.
Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) Administrator Hans Cacdac said that so far, in coordination with the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) and the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) 175 Filipinos have been evacuated from Afghanistan.
He also mentioned that from the 32 Filipinos who are still in the country, only 22 of those left seek to be repatriated.
“Doon sa 32, mga 22 lang ang nagsasabing gusto nilang ma-repatriate, pero syempre hihikayatin pa natin yung buong 32 na sila’y makauwi,” he said.
“Ang latest din ay merong another 16 Filipinos who left Kabul via military flight and now are in the UK, and then meron ding 13 na umalis papunta sa Oslo, Norway, at isa naman papunta sa Almaty, Kazakhstan, at isa sa Kuwait,” he added.
Cacdac said that it’s possible that there are non-OFWs among the numbers he mentioned but the majority of it, according to him, are workers.
