Palace thumbs down ‘no-vaccine, no-entry’ rule in markets: ‘Hindi pa napapanahon’

By Prince Golez

Malacañang has rejected the policy requiring residents to present a vaccination card when entering public and private markets.

The Lapu-Lapu City government earlier prohibited unvaccinated persons to enter department stores, supermarkets, grocery stores, and convenience stores in a bid to curb the rise in Covid-infections.

In his virtual presser Monday, Roque said this may not be the time to impose such a policy because the Philippines has yet to vaccinate 50 percent of its population.

“I commend Mayor Ahong of Lapu-Lapu for this innovation pero siguro po hindi pa napapanahon,” according to Roque.

“Yang ganyang mga restrictions ay pinapatupad ng mga bansang France at ilang parte ng Estados Unidos kasi nakabakuna na sila ng more than 50 percent of their population. Kumbaga walang dahilan para hindi magpabakuna ang hindi bakunado,” he said.

“While we commend that move and recognize the innovation, siguro antayin muna natin na at least 50 percent ng ating population ay mabakunahan. Kasi kung karamihan naman ay hindi bakunado at hindi makapunta ng mga pamilihan eh paano sila kukuha ng kanilang kakainin,” he added.
