Travel pa more! Panelo’s trips across PH bolsters talk of senatorial bid

Chief Presidential Legal Counsel Salvador Panelo has been making the rounds of various areas across the Philippines ahead of the 2022 elections.

In June, Panelo visited Mindoro, Batangas, Pampanga, Nueva Ecija, supposedly to learn more about pressing public concerns.

During a recent talk with President Rodrigo Duterte, Panelo said some fishermen in Mindoro have complained about the heavy punishments they’ve been subject to by the Coast Guard.

“Sinasabi nga po nila ‘pag nahuhuli sila ng mga Coast Guard kahit na napakasimple lamang na violation kagaya ng wala man lang ID, hinuhuli sila, inaaresto sila, kinukulong pa, at higit sa lahat, kinukumpiska pa ‘yong kanilang mga barko o ‘yong kanilang mga boat, mga bangka na siyang source ng kanilang livelihood,” he said.

In Duterte’s August 26 televised address, Panelo told Duterte about the clamor of several mayors for the President to run for vice president in 2022.

“Iyon ho ang palagi nilang sinasabi. Iba na raw ‘yung nandiyan kayo at makikita niyo kung itutuloy o hindi,” he said.

Panelo is included in PDP-Laban’s initial senatorial slate for the upcoming polls.
