A president should not be defending corrupt officials – Pacquiao

If he were to win as President, Senator Manny Pacquiao said he would not rush to defend Cabinet officials from alleged involvement in corruption and other anomalies.

“Hindi dapat natin depensahan o ipaglaban kung ano yung mga anomalya na ginagawa nila, kaya nga nakiusap ako sa ating pangulo dahil may issue ng korapsyon ang iba’t ibang ahensya ng ating gobyerno, hayaan niya yung mga Secretary niya na imbestigahan in aid of a legislation para mapatunayan na kung may kasalanan sila o wala,” he said in an interview on Politiko’s Politiskoop on Friday.

Pacquiao exclaimed that if he would be elected as President, he would give his supposed Cabinet officials an ultimatum of one year to make improvements on their agencies.

“Lahat ng mga pipiliin ko, syempre lahat yan gustong tumulong, gustong mabago ang ating bansa, baka makain sila ng sistema, yung power, pera na mama-manage nila,” he explained.

He specified that the improvements should contribute to the national government in terms of income and if they would not be able to accomplish this within six months to a year, he would replace them.

“Di ka pala […] maraming deserve na talagang dedicated na tao na para magkaroon ng pagbabago yang ahensya na yan. Dapat ganun,” he said.

“Ito ay, demokrasya naman kasi tayo so sana ang Pangulo natin ay wag magalit, ginagampanan lang namin ang aming trabaho as a legislator,” he added.
