Ateneo martial law museum just an amateur yellow propaganda website — Tiglao

If you want to visit the Ateneo martial law museum, you can but only in the digital world.

The so-called martial law museum, according to former ambassador Rigoberto Tiglao, is a “phantom entity” run by the yellow forces supposedly borrowing the credibility of the Ateneo de Manila University.

Tiglao found out that such ‘museum’ that criticized Toni Gonzaga over her interview with former Senator Bongbong Marcos, is a mere website that contains articles criticizing the late dictator Ferdinand Marcos and his martial law regime. The former Presidential Spokesperson questioned the credibility of the Ateneo martial law museum in his latest Manila Times column titled “‘Ateneo Martial Law Museum’: Fake and a disgrace to the university.”

“It is far from being a ‘museum’ whose most important feature is that it houses primary source artifacts. It is simply a Yellow propaganda website and an amateurish one at that,” Tiglao said

He also lectured the “idiots” behind the website about the definition of a museum. A dictionary defines a museum as “a building in which objects of historical, scientific, artistic or cultural interest are stored and exhibited,” he said. The so-called Ateneo martial law museum supposedly does not fit the description since it exists online.

“There are no ‘virtual museums’ as you can’t keep, say, a medieval sword, an ancient vase or even Rizal’s first edition of Noli Me Tangere in cyberspace. These idiots behind this Ateneo martial law museum confuse virtual tours or website representations of museums (like the Louvre or the Museum of Modern Art) with “virtual museums,” which cannot exist if there’s no museum that they are representing,” Tiglao said.

He also questioned the credentials of a certain Miguel Paolo Rivera to lead a supposed museum on martial law. He said Rivera appeared to be an entry-level faculty member and supposedly previously worked as assistant of former Palace communications official Ricky Carandang.

“What does this guy know of martial law? He looks like he’s in his 30s with only a master’s degree in political science and hasn’t written anything at all on martial law. Even if we concede his website is a museum, heads of museums with the lofty title of ‘Curator,’ are supposed to be experts in their field and must have a PhD,” Tiglao said.

Tiglao’s questions about the Ateneo martial law museum led to his day-long suspension on Facebook. He was unable to write Facebook posts for 24 hours on Sept. 17, 2021.

On its website, the martial law museum regards itself as a digital educational resource on martial law. It seeks to help educators to to teach the values of human rights, freedom, democracy, and engaged citizenship to Filipino students.
