Balakayojan! Duterte won’t meddle if OFWs are arrested for drug charges

By Prince Golez

President Rodrigo Duterte said he will not interfere if overseas Filipino workers are arrested for drug-related crimes.

In his pre-recorded public address aired on Wednesday, Duterte said he would not oppose should foreign countries decide to execute Filipinos for a drug offence.

“Kayong mga Pilipino, ‘pag nasabit kayo sa droga sa labas hindi ako makialam,” according to the Chief Executive.

“Even sabihin na i-execute na, hindi ako. Sabihin ko sa mga ambassador, you do your thinking, whatever you want to do. Pagispan ninyo, pero ako, ayaw ko talaga,” he added.

In 2016, Indonesian President Joko Widodo said Duterte gave him the green light to push ahead with the execution of convicted drug mule Mary Jane Veloso.

Veloso, a Filipino migrant worker, was sentenced to death by an Indonesian court in 2010 for drug smuggling.

Her execution was suspended following then President Benigno Aquino III’s appeal for clemency.
