Duterte guards deny protecting Michael Yang: ‘No PSG personnel is securing him’

The Presidential Security Group (PSG) has denied protecting former economic adviser Michael Yang, who is currently being investigated by the Senate for his alleged connection with Pharmally Corp., which bagged multi-billion deals for the procurement of Covid-19 supplies.

This after claims that Yang, a longtime businessman-friend of President Rodrigo Duterte, is holed up in Dusit Hotel in Davao City and protected by the PSG 24/7.

“Personally, I do not know Michael Yang,” PSG chief Col. Randolph Cabangbang said in a statement Sunday.

“I do not know his whereabouts, and definitely, no PSG personnel is securing him,” added Cabangbang.

Duterte has repeatedly defended Yang, who had also been linked to illegal drugs, saying that the Davao-based businessman helped Chinese companies enter the country.

“Itong si Michael Yang, negosyante, ang karamihan nito pumasok sa bidding sa lahat ng negosyo dito sa Pilipinas. Akala ko ba we are inviting investors? That’s why I went to China several times to ask them to help us. Investments. Yung pera nila ibuhos muna nila dito para magkaroon tayo,” the President said in a taped speech last month.
