President Rodrigo Duterte on Wednesday criticized Senator Francis Pangilinan for scrutinizing the multi-billion-peso deals awarded to Pharmally Pharmaceutical Corp. to buy Covid-19 medical supplies early into the pandemic.
“Itong si Pangilinan, effectivity date ng Bayanihan and pinagsasabi. Anong klaseng senador ka? Mag-debate ng technicalities habang mayroong global pandemic,” Duterte said during his taped public address.
“You have not contributed any meaningful legislation sa ating bayan. Puro agriculture, agriculture, ang kinakain mo naman steak. Puro kayo analysis, analysis analysis, it results into a paralysis,” he added.
At yesterday’s Senate Blue Ribbon Committee hearing, Pangilinan countered the claim of former Department of Budget and Management Procurement Service chief Christopher Lloyd Lao that the deliveries of face masks by Pharmally complied with the Bayanihan to Heal As One Act.
The lawmaker noted that the Bayanihan 1 law took effect April 6, 2020, contrary to Lao’s assertion that their purchases delivered on March 25, 2020 were covered by Republic Act No. 11469.
