Duterte says ‘double agent’ Dick should give up Red Cross post

By Prince Golez

Senator Dick Gordon should choose between his post as chairperson of the Philippine Red Cross (PRC) and as a senator, President Rodrigo Duterte said late Wednesday.

During his pre-recorded “Talk to the People” address, Duterte insisted that Gordon cannot keep his job in both institutions.

“If there is money given by the government to the Red Cross, any assistance, you sign it as the chairman at ikaw rin ang mag-imbestiga. Iyan ang problema sa iyo, eh double agent ka,” the President said.

“Under the law, you must give either Red Cross, kung gusto mong maging senador pa; o senador ka, hindi ka Red Cross. Pero para sa akin, you find the two positions very lucrative,” he added.

Duterte again claimed that Gordon, the chair of the Blue Ribbon Committee investigating the procurement of allegedly overpriced medical supplies, diverted his then-Priority Development Assistance Fund to the PRC.

“May PDAF ka, saan mo binigay? Senator ka, binigay mo doon sa sarili mo sa Red Cross. Do not say that Red Cross and ikaw ay separate identity. That’s b***s***. Alam lahat ng abugado ‘yan. You are a dual personality which is, you know, banned or prohibited by law. Dapat noon pa, dinemanda ka na,” according to him.

“Even government lawyers, Cabinet members cannot be an officer of a corporation or a company or even an owner of a business entity that deals with the government. Bawal talaga ‘yan. Bitawan mo na ‘yan kasi I will insist that you give up one because you cannot be both,” he concluded.
