Galvez thanks Russia for shipment of 190K doses of Sputnik V Light

By Prince Golez

Vaccine czar Secretary Carlito Galvez Jr. expressed his gratitude to the Russian Direct Investment Fund for fulfilling its promise to deliver 190,000 doses of Sputnik V (Component 2) Covid-19 vaccines.

The Component 2 shipment of the Russian vaccine arrived at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport Terminal 3 in Pasay City Saturday evening.

“We are apologizing for the delay of this Component 2 considering that we have some supply issues and as promised by the Russian Direct Investment Fund that this will be delivered today, and I’m very thankful that they fulfilled their promise,” said Galvez.

The chief implementer of the National Task Force Against Covid-19 said the newly arrived vaccines will be deployed to Bohol, Isabela, Bacoor, Metro Manila, other areas in Regions 3 and 4-A.

“All of them will be given, we’re already breathing a little easier,” he added.

Manila is expected to receive the first batch of government-procured Sputnik Light Covid-19 vaccines consisting of 1 million doses this month.

In August, the country’s Food and Drug Administration granted the emergency use authorization for Russian vaccine maker Gamaleya Institute’s Sputnik Light vaccine against Covid-19.
